At RackHouse Whiskey Club, we believe that every whiskey tells its own story. And we love to discover distilleries doing their part to contribute to the greater good. Here are some feel good stories by some of our fellow distillers who are giving back to their communities. Small batch, big hearts. From awarding scholarships, to fighting homelessness and improving environmental stewardship, these folks are bringing the art of whiskey making to a whole new level.

Good Deed Spirits

In an act of camaraderie, a group of craft distillers, aptly named the Good Guys, joined forces to create Good Deed Spirits, which is a passionate collective of distillers and friends, committed to supporting causes that lead to positive change. Their goal is to ‘walk-the-walk’ and not just ‘talk-the-talk’ when it comes to promoting diversity among the craft distiller community. Proceeds from Good Deeds Malt Whiskey support diversity and inclusion initiatives funded by the American Craft Spirits Association’s (ACSA) STEP-UP Foundation (Spirits Training Entrepreneurship Program for Underrepresented Professionals).

Westward Whiskey

Westward Whiskey recently created a “Benefit Barrel” collection, with all proceeds going to combat homelessness and promote food security in Oregon and California. Through the Oregon Transitions Projects and California’s No Us WIthout You, the initiative is helping provide resources directly to those who need a helping hand. It’s no wonder that this is how Westward Whiskey’s mission statement begins, “We take care of our own, and our friends and neighbors.”

Tamworth Distilling & Mercantile

Chocorua is a straight rye whiskey, distilled in a sour mash from a single crop of organic rye grain. For each bottle of Chocorua Rye sold, $1 goes to support the mission of the Chocorua Lake Conservancy, to protect the scenic and natural resources of the Chocorua Lake Basin. Now that’s a beautiful thing.

Heaven Hill Distillery

SInce 2013, Heaven Hill Distillery has raised over $1M for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) research and patient care. Each year, in honor of their late Master Distiller, Parker Beam, Heaven Hill releases a special selection for eager fans. While honoring the past, Heaven Hill focuses on the future through creating innovative whiskeys for Parker’s Heritage Collection. This year marks the Kentucky distillery’s 15th Edition.

We all know that whiskey can get you into all kinds of good trouble, if you let it. But you can feel good supporting these charitable distilleries, as they do their part by supporting their communities and producing damn fine whiskey at the same time.
